In Louisville, KY, firefighters are preparing for their annual flag retirement ceremony June 13 — the day before Flag Day — when worn and tattered flags collected from around the country will be respectfully retired. Co-sponsoring organizations, including AMVETS Post 61 and USPS, have sent more than 30,000 postcards to area businesses to spread the word about the event. Anyone with an American flag that needs to be retired can send it to: Okolona Post Office, Flag Retirement, 7400 Jefferson Blvd., Louisville, KY 40219-9998.

CLUB INDUCTION. Boise, ID, Overland Station Letter Carrier Steven Nichol recently received the Million Mile Award from the National Safety Council (NSC), in recognition for driving 1 million miles — or 30 years — without an at-fault accident. Boise Postmaster Dan Frasier presented Nichol with his award.
According to Nichol, the secret to his successful driving record is defensive driving. He says he’s always watching out for the other driver. Nichol, a 31-year postal veteran, drives 38 miles a day on his route.
The Million Mile Club is the highest honor given to a professional driver in the workplace by the NSC.
